The Journey from the Moment
“I follow the journey of a painter from the Joseon Dynasty, Shin. I Become his eyes and hands. These paintings are drawn after traveling in the Joseon Dynasty, hence my show's title, 'The Journey of the art of Joseon period' _ by artist.”
Works of Sunjin Leaa are derived from the original pieces of Yoon-Bok Shin. Lee’s inquisitive attitude could have stemmed from her constant exploration of self-identity after years of studying abroad. A retake on artworks begins with the artist’s admiration and search for a source of inspiration. However, over time this passive appreciation could permeate into the artist’s work and have a more active role in shaping the result. The modernistic element of Lee’s work is her self-reflective or inquisitive aspect regarding the original’s structural existence or fundamental values despite the similarity in content.
“Drawing on the boundary, Intervention, and Interference of the original artwork.”

Often, painting is compared to the act of stripping and revealing. During this process, the artist invites the viewers to the space of art through a voyeuristic perspective. I wish my endeavors and the images conjured up will help viewers better understand the creations made through the clash of cultures..
